The Air Quality Index in the Miami Valley was back in the “good” range on Friday morning, according to the Regional Air Pollution Control Agency, after three days of “unhealthy” or “very unhealthy” air.

As of 10:30 a.m. Friday, the AQI was 48, according to RAPCA. It had gradually climbed from 37 at 8:30 a.m. and 45 at 9:30 a.m. The area is still under an Air Quality Alert today, as conditions continue to change.

Any reading of 101 or higher is considered unhealthy for sensitive groups, and a reading of 150-199 is unhealthy for all. Local AQI readings were over 200 on Wednesday morning.

Environmental analysts have said the air quality issues are a result of smoke from Canadian wildfires polluting the region. Canadian officials say it is the nation’s worst wildfire season ever, with more than 200 fires still burning, and they expect air quality to remain a regular concern through the summer, the Associated Press reported.

When the air quality is bad, people with heart or lung disease, seniors and children are urged to avoid strenuous outdoor activities, keep outdoor activities short and consider moving physical activities indoors or rescheduling them, RAPCA said.
